Gender Reveal Blood Tests
We are delighted to offer early gender blood tests at Vitalis Health in Belfast .The early gender tests looks for Y chromosomes in the fetal DNA found in the expectant mother’s blood sample. If the mum’s blood has Male i.e XY chromosomes it’s a little boy. If it has XX chromosomes, It’s a little girl.
1. How soon can the patient do the test?
Our early gender detection test can be performed as early as 6 weeks into the pregnancy with over 99% accuracy. The TAT is 72 working hours once sample has been received at the lab.
2. Do they need to have had a scan confirming pregnancy?
While a prior pregnancy confirmation scan is not mandatory, it is advisable to ensure the pregnancy is viable and have the right information on the gestation age.
3. Can the test detect twins?
In case of gender, the lab checks for the presence of X and Y chromosomes, in case of twins-
- If only X chromosomes are detected, both twins are girls.
- If a Y chromosome is present, it indicates the presence of one Male or both foetuses can be Male.
